This design primarily considers service operational efficiency and also prevents errors when users choose different domains with the same slug. Therefore, once a PicSee user has used a particular short URL slug, it cannot be used again.
Additionally, PicSee offers a restoration feature for deleted short URLs, and we need to preserve short URL records to track potential malicious use. As a result, even after deletion, the slug cannot be reused.
Solutions
- If a short URL with that slug is in your trash: Use the Restore Deleted Short URL feature. After restoration, you can use Update Destination URL to update it to your desired destination, or modify the restored link's slug to something else, allowing you to use your preferred slug.
- If you cannot or do not want to modify existing short URLs: Slugs work on a first-come, first-served basis, just like registering usernames. If someone else has used it, you'll need to modify your slug. Consider variations such as: if you wanted to use promote2030, try Promote2030 (capitalize the P), promotes2030 (add an s), promote_2030 (add an underscore), promote20301 (add a number at the end), etc.
