How to add Meta Pixel or GTM to a short link?

If you want to track exposure data when directing users to external platforms (such as Google Forms, YouTube, momo shopping sites, etc.) through short links, you can add Meta Pixel or GTM ID to your PicSee short links for tracking. This helps you build remarketing audiences even when you cannot directly control the destination website.

Setup Instructions

Find Your Pixel ID or GTM ID

  • Pixel ID: Log into Meta Business Manager, go to "Events Manager", click on your pixel to see the ID number.
  • GTM ID: Log into Google Tag Manager, and you can see the GTM-XXXXXXX format ID in the container list.

Add Your Tracking Code in PicSee

Click "Settings" from the top right corner, find "Tracking Tools" in the left sidebar, locate the "Meta Pixel" or "Google Tag Manager (GTM)" field, and enter the corresponding ID. The "Name" field helps you identify multiple IDs and doesn't affect the configuration.

Add Tracking Code to Short Links

After creating a short link, you can find the "Tracking Tools" option in the edit panel on the left side of the link record. Add tracking codes for that specific short link and save. The system will automatically load these tracking codes during redirection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I track website interaction events?

No, embedding pixels in short links can only record "exposure" behavior and cannot track users' actual interactions on the destination website. Embedding tracking codes in short links is suitable for scenarios where you cannot embed tracking codes on the destination website. If you're primarily directing to your own official website, it's recommended to install pixels and GTM directly on the website for more comprehensive event tracking.

Why isn't Meta detecting my pixel?

Meta pixels usually require some time and a certain amount of exposure before corresponding events or audiences appear in the Meta advertising backend. It's normal not to see data immediately after setup. We recommend continuing to use short links for several days before observing results.

Can I filter the pixel data I receive?

You can add custom tags when creating short links, and these tags will also be sent to the pixel for use as conditions when creating remarketing audiences. For tag settings, please refer to: How to Add Tags to Short Links

Will all tracking codes in GTM be triggered?

Not necessarily. Due to the fast nature of short link redirections, some tracking codes in GTM may not have enough time to execute. We recommend actually clicking the links to test and confirm successful triggering.
